Difference Between Leopard Gecko and Fat Tailed Gecko

What’s the difference between leopard gecko and fat tailed gecko?  Leopard gecko and african fat-tailed gecko share the same subfamily “Eublepharidae”.  Eublepharidae are a family of geckos lacking sticky pads on their toes (they have claws instead).  They also have movable eyelids unlike other species of geckos.  Aside from being in the same subfamily, leopard gecko and african fat-tailed are two different species from different parts of the world.

What should I breed? What morphs do I make? What to sell? What breeding projects?

what should I breed leopard gecko bandit hatchling eggs

What should I breed?

People often ask what should I breed, or what morphs do I breed to sell?  Here’s a checklist of what we recommend you to go by.

What should I breed?  Well what morphs do you like?

You should always pick morphs that interest you.  This way, whether your breeding projects take off or not, whether you can sell your geckos, you’ll always love what you breed and hatch out.  Many gecko projects we have were picked because we enjoyed them.  Projects such as the bandit project and sunglows were my personal favorites.  This is key to keeping your interest level high.

Market research

As much as you should pick breeding projects you enjoy, you should also realize some morphs are not as popular.  There’s no doubt some morphs are purchased more than others.  Most do sell but they don’t sell at the same rate.  It’s your job to do some research.  Go browse some gecko websites, you’ll want to look at what morphs are sold, which breeds are sold quicker than others, and what morphs tend to stay available longer.  You pretty much want to conduct your own market research.

Cute Bandit Leopard Geckos – Deino and Enyo

I was feeding the geckos one day and saw this as I opened their tank.  These two ultra cute bandit leopard geckos poked their heads out because they knew it was feeding time.  They are my reliable bandit female breeders, they’ve produced beautiful and healthy offspring for the past 4 years for us.  I don’t normally keep geckos in pairs, but these two have been living harmoniously since they were juveniles.  We saw no reason to break them apart, they never displayed aggressive behaviors toward each other.  These two are always excited during feed time, one prefer superworms the other prefer dubia roaches.  This was such a cute sight I had to snap a quick pic.  Hope you enjoy it! Bandit projects thriving – hatchlings

We are having great success with our bandit projects.  We’ve already hatched out 6 beautiful bandit hatchlings, with more eggs still in the incubator.  On top of that our bandit breeders are still ovulating.  This marks our second successful season with our bandit projects.

Bandits are a linebred morph, it was linebred for several generations to achieve the trademark bandit nose band, as well as the bold patterns and stripes. Bandits are great looking leopard geckos that show off the light/dark contrast very well.  It is one of our favorite morphs.

Here’s our first hatchling this season, check out how cute she is:
